Efrat Shvily photographs in Rehavia, a neighborhood which has significantly changed in recent years. The generations which built and grew up in Rehavia have gradually been replaced by new population. Small, modest homes, hidden behind trees and vegetation, are being demolished in favor of large, lucrative apartment buildings. Efrat photographs the Garden City, its characteristic homes, intimate spots and blossoming gardens as a Garden Island, a remnant in the heart of Jerusalem, at the moment after abandonment and before demolition. Her focus is on the gardens as the essential element in the International Style planning and construction of homes, and on the marks man, time and place left in them.
